Dangeil (Sudan)

Weather…

Dangeil is a significant archaeological site in modern Sudan, located approximately 350 kilometers north of Khartoum on the right bank of the Nile. The excavations have revealed a major city of the Kushite Kingdom that flourished between the 1st century BC and the 4th century AD. A central feature of the site is the massive Temple of Amun, constructed with red bricks and intricate stonework, serving as the settlement's religious heart. Archaeologists have uncovered statues of prominent Kushite kings, including Taharqa and Senkamanisken, emphasizing the royal importance of the location. Strategically situated near the Nile's fifth cataract, the city controlled vital trade routes between the capital, Meroe, and the northern territories. Today, the site provides profound insights into late Meroitic architecture and the complex urban structures of the ancient Kushite civilization.
