Vic is the capital of the Osona region in the Barcelona province and is regarded as one of Catalonia's most historic cities. Its origins stretch back to the Roman era, evidenced by the striking 2nd-century Roman temple located in the city center. The medieval legacy is pervasive throughout the well-preserved old town, particularly in the Plaça Major, one of Spain's most beautiful town squares, which has hosted regular markets since the 9th century. Vic Cathedral blends various architectural styles, from its Romanesque crypt to the monumental 20th-century murals by Josep Maria Sert. Geographically, the city lies in a broad plain often characterized by fog; these climatic conditions provide the good environment for producing the famous local cured sausage known as 'Fuet.' Today, Vic is a significant educational and cultural hub, home to a renowned university and the Episcopal Museum, which houses one of the world's finest collections of Romanesque art.
