Reus is a prominent city in the province of Tarragona, serving as the cultural and commercial heart of the Baix Camp region in Catalonia. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the city rose to international fame as a leading center for the trade of spirits and vermouth, often ranked alongside Paris and London in global market influence. This economic golden age allowed Reus to become the second most important hub for Catalan Modernism after Barcelona. The city is the birthplace of the genius architect Antoni Gaudí, and although he left no buildings of his own here, his legacy is honored by the state-of-the-art Gaudí Centre. Visitors can explore the 'Modernism Route,' which features impressive masterpieces by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, such as Casa Navàs and the Pere Mata Institute. Today, Reus is a dynamic commercial center with elegant pedestrian streets and a key regional airport. The city is also famous for its vermouth production, a tradition that remains deeply embedded in the local lifestyle and culinary identity.
