Pamplona, the capital of the Chartered Community of Navarre in northern Spain, is a city steeped in history and international renown. Its medieval old town is enclosed by massive 16th-century walls and a star-shaped citadel, forming one of the most significant military fortifications in Europe. Pamplona gained worldwide fame through the San Fermín festival held every July, immortalized by Ernest Hemingway in his novel 'The Sun Also Rises,' and featuring the traditional Running of the Bulls (Encierro). Beyond its festivals, the city is a vital stop on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, attracting thousands of visitors annually.
