Casa Milà, popularly known as La Pedrera (The Quarry), is a masterpiece of Catalan Modernism in Barcelona designed by Antoni Gaudí. Built between 1906 and 1912, it was the last private residence designed by the architect before he dedicated himself entirely to the Sagrada Família. The striking undulating limestone facade and the intricate wrought-iron balconies resembling seaweed give the building a unique organic appearance. Inside, Gaudí utilized revolutionary structural innovations, such as a self-supporting stone facade and a column-based structure that eliminated the need for load-bearing walls. The rooftop is famous for its sculptural chimneys and ventilation shafts, which look like masked knights in a surreal landscape. Casa Milà was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984 and currently serves as a cultural center and museum showcasing Gaudís visionary architectural style.
