Lantoto National Park is a protected area in southwestern South Sudan, in Central Equatoria State, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Established in 2011, it covers 760 km² of mixed tropical forest, savanna, and rivers. The park is part of the Congo-Nile divide ecosystem and hosts forest elephants, chimpanzees, bongos, and other rare species. Due to the civil war, the area remained largely inaccessible, allowing wildlife to persist. Since 2015, conservation efforts have been led by the Wildlife Conservation Society. The park is a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA). In 2018, a camera trap survey recorded 20 mammal species. There are no roads or accommodations; entry requires a permit and a guide. Lantoto is crucial for the conservation of the Central African rainforest ecosystem.
