Unayzah is a city in the central part of Saudi Arabia, in the Al-Qassim province. Along with Buraydah, it is one of the most important cities in the region. Unayzah was historically a center of knowledge, culture, and trade, and was often called the 'Paris of Qassim'. The city is famous for its open and more liberal (within the Saudi context) atmosphere, as well as its commitment to arts and education. The people of Unayzah, the 'ahl al-Unayzah', are proud of their history and their city's contribution to Saudi culture. The city is located in a fertile oasis, and agriculture, especially the cultivation of dates and vegetables, plays an important role in its economy. Modern Unayzah is a prosperous, clean, and orderly city, with numerous parks, recreational areas, and cultural institutions. The city hosts the Unayzah Cultural Festival, as well as numerous sports and leisure events. The city's tourist attractions include the renovated Al-Musawkaf Souq (market) and the traditional mud-brick buildings in the old town.
