The Golescu-Grant Manor (Belvedere Palace) in the Giulești district of Bucharest is a significant architectural monument that blends the history of Romanian nobility with British influence. The original structure dates from the early 19th century and was owned by the influential Golescu boyar family. It later passed into the ownership of Effingham Grant, a British diplomat who married into the Golescu family and played a decisive role in developing the area surrounding the estate. The architecture features Neoclassical elements and was once surrounded by extensive gardens that have since been partially built over due to Bucharest's urban expansion. The manor was a major meeting point for intellectuals and politicians during Romania's modernization in the 19th century. Despite a turbulent history during which it served as an orphanage and a school, the building has been preserved as a cultural monument. Today, it stands as a reminder of old Bucharest's cosmopolitan atmosphere and the historical connections between Romanian boyars and European diplomats.
