Monte Serravalle
Monte Serravalle is a central geographical elevation in the most populous municipality (castello) of the Republic of San Marino. This hill dominates the northern national territory and forms the core of the Serravalle settlement, historically known as 'Olnano'. The geological base consists of a solid limestone formation, which provided a natural platform for the medieval castle and subsequent urban developments. Thanks to its location on the main connecting route to the Adriatic coast, Monte Serravalle was a strategic hub for trade and military operations for centuries. The slopes are now largely urbanized but still feature ecologically valuable green spaces with Mediterranean flora. From the higher points of the hill, the view extends to Rimini and across the entire Romagnolo plain. The mountain is a symbol of San Marino's 20th-century economic surge and houses important state institutions.
