Weather…

Săpânța is a globally unique village in the Maramureș region, famous for its 'Merry Cemetery' (Cimitirul Vesel). Unlike traditional graveyards, this site celebrates life and death with lively colors and humor. Each grave features a handcrafted wooden cross painted in 'Săpânța Blue', decorated with a naive portrait of the deceased and a short, often satirical poem in local dialect. These verses honestly describe the person's character, profession, or the circumstances of their death. The tradition was started in 1935 by folk artist Stan Ioan Pătraș and continues today. Beyond the cemetery, the village is home to the Peri-Săpânța Monastery, which has the tallest wooden church in the world at 78 meters. Located right on the border with Ukraine, Săpânța features a deep dive into Maramureș traditions, from elaborate wood carving to ancestral pastoral customs.
