The Old Town of Tykocin is an exceptional historical ensemble often referred to as the 'pearl of the baroque,' reflecting a profound Polish-Jewish history. Located on the banks of the Narew River, the town preserves a unique 18th-century fan-shaped urban layout initiated by the Branicki family. The centerpiece of its Jewish heritage is the Great Synagogue of 1642, one of the best-preserved baroque synagogues in Poland, now serving as a museum. Near the town, visitors find the reconstructed ruins of Tykocin Castle, where King Sigismund II Augustus held his residence and where the Order of the White Eagle was founded. The market square is dominated by the monumental Holy Trinity Church and the Stefan Czarniecki monument, the second oldest secular monument in Poland. Tykocin was a flourishing trade center for centuries before suffering tragic losses in World War II, and today it remains a key symbol of cultural heritage in the Podlachia region.
