Mount Ślęża (Poland)

Weather…

Mount Ślęża, a geologically highly isolated and deeply mystical mountain massif, rises extremely abruptly and unexpectedly as a striking cone from the completely flat Silesian Lowlands, totally dominating the vast landscape south of Wrocław. Because of this remarkably exposed location, it is very frequently referred to as the 'Silesian Olympus'. The mountain holds an immense historical and deeply spiritual significance, as it served as the absolute center of deeply pagan solar cults as early as the ancient Bronze and Iron Ages. This is still heavily evidenced today by completely mysterious, stone-carved cult figures, most notably the famous 'Bear', as well as the scattered remains of truly ancient stone walls hidden deep within the mountain's forests. The forests themselves consist of a highly species-rich mixed deciduous woodland that glows brilliantly in animated colors during autumn. From the summit, which notably hosts a historic church, a television transmission tower, and a viewing platform, visitors enjoy an unparalleled, sweeping panoramic view over the entirety of Lower Silesia, reaching all the way to the distant peaks of the Sudetes.
