Bory Tucholskie National Park (Poland)

Weather…

The Bory Tucholskie National Park lies hidden in northern Poland, safeguarding the most pristine core of one of the country's largest and most contiguous forest complexes. This seemingly endless sea of dense, majestic pine forests thrives on the infertile, sandy outwash plains (sandurs) deposited by melting glaciers at the end of the Ice Age. The monotonous green of the pines is spectacularly broken by a delicate network of dozens of deep blue, crystal-clear ribbon lakes and dystrophic Lobelia lakes, which formed in glacial depressions. These isolated, acidic lakes harbor highly specialized aquatic flora, most notably the rare water lobelia. The undisturbed tranquility of the pine forest and the lack of significant human settlements make Bory Tucholskie a premier sanctuary for disturbance-sensitive woodland fauna, including the elusive wolf, the black stork, and the critically endangered capercaillie, which proudly adorns the park's official logo.
