Taqah Castle (Oman)

Weather…

Taqah Castle is a relatively recent fortress, built in the 19th century as a residence for Sheikh Ali bin Taman Al Ma'shani, a local tribal leader. It later became the seat of the Wali (governor) of the region. The castle is a superbly preserved example of traditional Dhofari architecture. It is a three-story building with a large courtyard and four watchtowers. Unlike the larger forts in northern Oman, Taqah is more of a fortified residential home. The rooms are furnished with traditional furniture, weapons, and household items, providing a vivid impression of the life of an Omani governor in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Of particular interest are the kitchen and storerooms on the ground floor, and the Wali's richly decorated living quarters on the upper floors.
