Hasik Archaeological Site (Oman)

Weather…

The archaeological site of Hasik, on the coast of Dhofar, is a testament to the ancient maritime trade in the region. Hasik was a key port for the export of frankincense, which was harvested in the surrounding mountains. Historical texts, including the writings of the 10th-century geographer Al-Maqdisi, mention Hasik as a thriving trading post. The ruins visible today include the remains of a mosque, houses, and tombs built from local stone. Its strategic location in a sheltered bay made it a handy anchorage for trading ships en route to India and East Africa. Although the site is not as large as Al-Baleed or Sumhuram, it provides important information about the smaller ports that supported the frankincense trade network. The rugged and isolated landscape has helped preserve the ruins to this day.
