Al Baleed (Oman)

Weather…

Al-Baleed Archaeological Park encompasses the ruins of the medieval city of Zafar, a flourishing trading port from the 8th to the 16th century. The city was a major hub on the frankincense route, trading with China, India, and the Mediterranean. The extensive ruins include the Grand Mosque, the citadel (Husn), and numerous residential and commercial buildings. The Grand Mosque, with its 144 octagonal columns, was one of the largest buildings of its kind in the region. The citadel, situated on elevated ground, served as the administrative and defensive center. The port of Al-Baleed was known for its ability to accommodate large ships, facilitating extensive maritime trade. Today, the site, along with the attached Frankincense Museum, is a window into the rich maritime history of Dhofar.
