Al Batinah Coast (Oman)

Weather…

The Al Batinah Coast is a fertile coastal plain in northern Oman, stretching from the Hajar Mountains to the Gulf of Oman. It is the most densely populated region of the country outside of the capital area of Muscat. The plain is the agricultural heartland of Oman, where dates, tomatoes, citrus fruits, and vegetables are grown extensively. This is made possible by the numerous wadis that descend from the mountains and feed underground aquifers. The coast is lined with long sandy beaches and fishing villages. Important cities in the region include Sohar, once a major trading hub, and Barka. The coastal plain is flat and slopes gently towards the sea, making it vulnerable to coastal erosion and sea-level rise.
