The Schoorlse Duinen in North Holland is the highest and widest dune area in the Netherlands, offering a spectacular natural setting. With peaks rising over 50 meters into the sky, the area provides dramatic views of the North Sea and the polder land. The vegetation is extremely diverse, ranging from dense pine forests planted in the late 19th century to vast heathlands that shine purple in late summer. A special feature is De Kerf, an artificial breach in the first row of dunes that allows the sea to flow into the dune valleys during high tide, leading to the creation of new salt marshes. Despite severe forest fires in the recent past, nature has regenerated impressively and today shows high biological dynamics. The area is a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts, who will find one of the country's most challenging mountain bike trails as well as numerous hiking paths here.
