Heiloo is a municipality in the province of North Holland, situated just south of Alkmaar. Its name is derived from 'Heilig Loo,' meaning 'Holy Grove,' which highlights the area's ancient religious significance. Since the Middle Ages, Heiloo has been a prominent pilgrimage site, centered around the sanctuary of 'Onze Lieve Vrouw ter Nood' (Our Lady of Need), which dates back to the 15th century. Another notable historic site is the Willibrordus-put, a well named after Saint Willibrord, who is said to have preached here in the 8th century. Today, Heiloo is recognized as an affluent residential community characterized by its lush greenery and high standard of living. The townscape features the iconic 12th-century 'Witte Kerk' (White Church) and numerous stately villas. With its own railway station providing direct links to Amsterdam, it is a popular location for commuters.
