Delfzijl Chemical Park (Netherlands)

Weather…

The Delfzijl Chemical Park is located in the northeast of the Netherlands, directly on the shores of the Wadden Sea World Heritage site, and is one of the country's most significant industrial locations. The park was established in the 1950s following the discovery of massive natural gas reserves and rock salt layers in the region, which still provide the raw material base for the resident companies today. Currently, the site hosts a highly integrated cluster of chemical firms, including Nouryon and Evonik, producing essential chemicals for various industries. A distinctive feature is the focus on green chemistry and the utilization of sustainably produced hydrogen to drive industrial decarbonization. The site benefits from its direct connection to the Port of Delfzijl, enabling the maritime import of raw materials and export of finished goods. Due to its proximity to large North Sea wind farms, Delfzijl is increasingly evolving into a center for Power-to-Gas technology. The synergies between the companies within the park result in high efficiency regarding energy and resource distribution.
