The Otjihase Copper Mine is located approximately 18 kilometers northeast of Windhoek and stands as one of central Namibia's most prominent underground copper operations. Geologically, it is part of the Matchless Amphibolite Belt, similar to the Matchless mine, characterized by stratiform sulfide deposits. Mining at this site commenced in the 1970s and has been managed by various entities over the years, including the Tsumeb Corporation and Weatherly International. The facility primarily produces copper concentrates, with pyrite as a significant byproduct. Its infrastructure features an extensive network of underground tunnels and an on-site concentrator plant. Otjihase was once the leading source of copper in Namibia prior to the development of larger open-pit mines. Despite periodic shifts to care and maintenance due to global market fluctuations, it remains a strategic asset in the nation's mineral portfolio.
