The Christuskirche in Windhoek is a prominent historical landmark and a symbol of the city. Its construction began in 1907 under the direction of architect Gottlieb Redecker and was completed in 1910. It was erected as a monument to peace following the wars between the Germans and the Herero, Nama, and Ovambo peoples. The church blends Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau architectural styles. Its 24-meter-high spire is built from local quartz sandstone. The stained-glass windows were donated by Emperor Wilhelm II, and the altar bible was a gift from his wife. The interior is kept simple, but the acoustics are remarkable. The church is situated on an elevated point in central Windhoek, offering panoramic views of the surroundings. It serves the German-speaking Evangelical Lutheran community in Namibia.
