Stampriet is a small settlement in the Auob River valley within the Hardap Region of southeastern Namibia. The location is a geographic anomaly due to its significant artesian water springs, which are fed by large underground sandstone aquifers. Thanks to this consistent water supply, Stampriet appears as a lush green oasis in the middle of the arid Kalahari environment, allowing for intensive irrigation-based agriculture. The settlement was established in 1898 and served as a military post and supply center during the German colonial era. Today, Stampriet is primarily known for producing vegetables, fruits, and lucerne, and it is home to one of the most prominent private schools in the country. The abundant vegetation and old palm trees give the town a unique charm that stands out against the surrounding harsh farming landscapes.
