Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Myanmar (Burma))

Weather…

Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, widely known as the Golden Rock, is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. The site features a small, 7-meter-tall pagoda built on top of a massive granite boulder that is entirely covered in gold leaf applied by devotees. The boulder appears to defy gravity, perched precariously on the edge of a cliff at the summit of Mount Kyaiktiyo, over 1,100 meters above sea level. According to ancient legend, the rock is held in its delicate balance by a single strand of the Buddha's hair enshrined within the pagoda. Pilgrims from across Southeast Asia visit during the October to March season, often spending the night in meditation near the rock. Religious customs strictly prohibit women from touching the Golden Rock or crossing the immediate bridge to its base. The view at sunset is particularly famous, as the golden surface glows with an intense radiance against the darkening mountain backdrop.
