Ostros Monastery (Montenegro)

Weather…

Ostros Monastery, also known as Prečista Krajinska, is located on the southern shores of Lake Skadar in the Krajina region. Founded in the late 10th or early 11th century, it is closely associated with the life of Prince Jovan Vladimir, the first Montenegrin saint, and his wife Kosara. During the Middle Ages, the monastery served as the seat of the Zeta Bishopric and was a major cultural and religious hub. Legend holds that Jovan Vladimir was initially buried here before his relics were moved to Albania. The current site consists of the ruins of the once-magnificent church and surrounding monastic buildings, enveloped by centuries-old chestnut forests. Despite its ruined state, the monastery remains a vital site for pilgrims and historians studying the early Christian history of the region. Annual commemorative events are held here to honor the spiritual significance of the Krajina area.
