Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is located in the extreme western part of Mongolia, bordering Russia and China. It encompasses the highest peaks in the country, most notably Khüiten Peak at 4,374 meters. The name 'Tavan Bogd' translates to 'Five Saints,' referring to the five prominent peaks of the massif that hold profound spiritual significance for local communities. The park covers a vast area of over 630,000 hectares and is defined by massive glaciers, such as the 14-kilometer-long Potanin Glacier, deep river valleys, and pristine alpine lakes like Khoton and Khurgan. Beyond its natural grandeur, the park is world-renowned for its archaeological wealth, particularly the Petroglyphs of the Mongolian Altai, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The region is home to Kazakh and Tuvan nomads who maintain traditional customs, including the ancient practice of eagle hunting. The park provides world-class opportunities for mountaineering, trekking, and spotting rare wildlife such as snow leopards and Siberian ibex.
