Dariganga Plateau

The Dariganga Plateau is located in southeastern Mongolia within the Sükhbaatar province and is one of Central Asia's most intriguing volcanic regions. Spanning an area of approximately 10,000 square kilometers, it contains over 200 extinct volcanic cones dating from the late Cenozoic era. The highest and most famous of these volcanoes is Shiliin Bogd, reaching 1,778 meters, which is worshipped as a sacred mountain. The landscape is defined by solidified lava flows, crater lakes, and expansive grassy steppes, creating a unique geological ensemble. In addition to volcanic formations, the area features sand dunes like Moltsog Els and small lakes that serve as resting points for migratory birds. Culturally, Dariganga is renowned for its traditional silver craftsmanship and rich folklore. The plateau also provides a habitat for massive herds of Mongolian white-tailed gazelles. Due to its geological and cultural significance, part of the plateau is protected as a national park, attracting many domestic pilgrims and tourists annually.
