Buir Lake is situated on the border between Mongolia and China and is the centerpiece of the vast Dornod steppe. With its fine sandy beaches and clear water, it appears as an oasis in the endless plains. The lake is relatively shallow, which allows the water to warm up pleasantly in summer, making it suitable for swimming. For anglers, the lake is a paradise, known for its abundance of fish, particularly Taimen and pike. Birdwatchers will also find it rewarding, as the lake is a major resting point for migratory birds. The surrounding area is characterized by untouched steppe where huge herds of gazelles can often be spotted. The remoteness of the site guarantees peace and deep immersion into nature. Travel to Buir Lake is a long journey from Choibalsan across vast grasslands. The best time to visit is from June to August. There are some basic tourist camps nearby, but many visitors prefer camping directly on the shore to enjoy Eastern Mongolia's spectacular starry skies.
