Shiliin Bogd Mountain (Mongolia)

Weather…

Shiliin Bogd is an extinct volcano in Sukhbaatar Province and, at 1778 meters, the highest peak in the region. It is regarded as one of Mongolia's most sacred mountains, serving as a focal point for shamanic and Buddhist rituals. From its summit, visitors can enjoy a dramatic panoramic view of the surrounding steppe and the numerous volcanic craters of the Dariganga volcanic field. A deeply rooted tradition exists for Mongolian men to climb the peak before sunrise to gather energy and fortune for the coming year. Near the mountain lies the famous Taliin Agui cave, one of the largest lava tube caves in Central Asia. The rugged beauty of the mountain and its isolated location near the Chinese border have made it a symbol of national pride and strength. The flora and fauna of the area are uniquely adapted to the extreme winds of the eastern Mongolian steppe.
