Cornești is a strategically significant small town located in the Ungheni District in central Moldova. First documented in 1437, the settlement is positioned in the scenic Codru Hills, a region renowned for its dense forests and fertile landscape. A major turning point in the town's history was the construction of the Chișinău, Ungheni railway line in the late 19th century, which elevated Cornești to an essential transportation hub. Geographically, the town is notable for its elevation, with the Cornești railway station being one of the highest points in the Moldovan rail network at approximately 232 meters above sea level. Today, the municipality is divided into two administrative units: the town of Cornești and the village of the same name.
