Codru Estate (Moldova)

Weather…

Codru Estate, located in the central part of Moldova, is a historic manor complex dating back to the early 19th century. Built by the Balș family, the estate features a neoclassical mansion, a landscaped English garden, and agricultural buildings. The estate played a significant role in the region's wine and fruit cultivation, serving as an experimental farm during the Soviet era. The main house, constructed around 1825, has a symmetrical façade with a portico supported by six Ionic columns. The park contains over 60 species of trees, including imported exotic varieties. Today, the estate is a cultural heritage site, but its preservation is challenged by neglect and vandalism. Efforts are underway to restore it as a museum of nobility and agriculture.
