Best season
Manta rays can be seen year-round, but the best sighting period is December to April. During these months underwater visibility is best and currents bring plenty of plankton.
Best time of day
Morning hours between 8 and 11 are considered best as rays often visit cleaning stations then. Late afternoon many return to feed on plankton.
Etiquette
Keep at least 3 meters distance from manta rays to avoid stressing them. Never touch them as this damages their protective mucus layer.
What to bring
A well-sealing mask is crucial as you often float on the surface for extended periods. A wetsuit is recommended as water can be cool in some spots.
Getting there
Main dive sites are off the coast of Yap and reachable by boat in 10-20 minutes. Many dive operators offer guided tours to the cleaning stations.
What to expect
