💡 Tips
- Visit the famous Sunday market as early as possible (before 09:00) to see the freshest catch and beat the heat and crowds.
- Look for the painted eyes on the 'Luzzu' boats; they are an ancient symbol meant to protect fishermen from danger at sea.
- If you head to St. Peter's Pool, take one of the small water taxis from the waterfront, it’s easier and more scenic than the bumpy road.
- Book your lunch table in advance for weekends, as the waterfront restaurants are extremely popular with local Maltese families.
- Walk to the jetty at the southern end of the bay for the best panoramic photos of the colorful fleet and the village.

Marsaxlokk is Malta's most famous fishing village, situated in a large bay in the southeast of the island. The village is iconic for its colourful traditional fishing boats, known as 'luzzus', which are often adorned with the protective Eye of Osiris on the bows. Historically, Marsaxlokk Bay has been a significant landing site; it was used by Phoenicians and Romans, and in 1565, the Ottoman fleet anchored here during the Great Siege of Malta. The nearby hill of Tas-Silġ houses a major multi-period archaeological site with remains ranging from Megalithic temples to an Arabic-period shrine. Today, Marsaxlokk is best known for its bustling Sunday market, where fresh seafood and local artisanal products are sold to locals and visitors alike. Despite the industrial presence of the Delimara Power Station and the Malta Freeport nearby, the village has successfully preserved its quaint and traditional character. The waterfront is lined with acclaimed seafood restaurants and gives a scenic view of the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters.
