Lija is a scenic village in central Malta and, together with Attard and Balzan, forms the prestigious group of the 'Three Villages'. The locality is famous for its magnificent gardens, historical villas, and its deep-rooted passion for fireworks. The imposing Belvedere Tower, a 19th-century round pavilion set within a large garden, is the most renowned architectural landmark of the area. The Parish Church of Our Lady of the Transfiguration is a Baroque masterpiece and serves as the religious heart of the community. Lija is nationwide famous for its patronal feast in August, featuring some of Malta's most spectacular pyrotechnic shows. The village streets are lined with citrus trees, and Lija is regarded as the hub of Maltese orange and lemon production. Many of the narrow alleys have retained their medieval layout and house traditional Maltese homes with ornately decorated doorways. Despite its proximity to the busy hubs of Birkirkara and Mosta, Lija exudes a noble tranquility. The town is also a favored residential area for diplomats and high-ranking officials.
