Blue Lagoon (Malta)

Weather…

The Blue Lagoon is a shallow, turquoise bay located between the islands of Comino and Cominotto in the Maltese archipelago. Famous for its white sandy seabed and crystal-clear waters, it covers an area of approximately 2.7 hectares. Historically, the bay provided a sheltered anchorage for small vessels and was used by corsairs in the Middle Ages. The surrounding islet of Comino was a strategic location for the Order of St. John, which built the nearby Santa Marija Tower in 1618. Today, the lagoon is a protected marine area and one of the most visited natural attractions in Malta. The depth of the water ranges from less than 1 meter in the shallow areas to 5 meters near the outer edges. Its unique color is the result of sunlight reflecting off the limestone sands in the clear, shallow water. It is a vital habitat for Mediterranean marine life and is strictly managed to preserve its environmental integrity.
