St. Julian's Tower (Malta)

Weather…

St. Julian's Tower is a historic watchtower located on the coast of Sliema, built in 1658 during the reign of Grand Master Martin de Redin. It is one of the so-called De Redin towers, which were constructed as part of a coastal communication and defense system across Malta. The tower has a square base and consists of two floors plus a roof platform, from which signals could be relayed to neighboring towers. In the 18th century, the structure was augmented with a semi-circular battery to strengthen the defense of St. Julian's Bay. During the British era, the tower continued to be used for military purposes before eventually passing into private hands. Today, St. Julian's Tower houses a popular restaurant, which has ensured the preservation of the historic building. It stands as a prominent landmark on the Sliema Promenade, serving as a reminder of the times when the island had to defend itself against pirate raids and foreign invasions.
