Ankarafantsika National Park (Madagascar)

Weather…

Ankarafantsika National Park is located in northwestern Madagascar and is one of the last refuges for the island's dry deciduous forests. Spanning an area of approximately 1,350 square kilometers, the park is characterized by an impressive diversity of ecosystems, including dense forests, savannas, and wetlands such as Lake Ravelobe. The area was designated as a protected reserve as early as 1927 and became a national park in 2002 to preserve its unique flora and fauna. It is world-renowned for its lemur population, particularly Coquerel's sifaka and the mongoose lemur, which can be observed here in the wild. Birdwatchers are also drawn to the park, as over 129 species are native to the area, including the rare Madagascar fish eagle. The park's geology features red sandstone formations and deep canyons, which create spectacular contrasts with the green vegetation during the rainy season. Ankarafantsika also serves as a vital watershed for the surrounding agricultural regions in the Boeny Province.
