Castle of Bettembourg (Luxembourg)

Weather…

Bettembourg Castle, now the town's representative town hall, is an elegant example of Baroque architecture dating from 1733. It was built for the von Lo(e)wenstein-Wertheim family on the site of a former medieval castle. The symmetrical facade and mansard roof are typical features of the period. Interestingly, the property originally served a dual purpose: as a stately castle and as an agricultural farm, reflecting the close connection between the nobility and agriculture in that era. After the castle passed into the ownership of various industrialist families in the 19th century, it was acquired by the municipality in 1971. Following extensive renovation work that preserved its historical substance, it has served as the town hall since 1991. It is surrounded by a spacious public park, which invites visitors for a stroll and makes the castle an accessible center of civic life.
