Gaflei is a location rich in history situated above Triesenberg on a sunny terrace at an altitude of about 1,500 meters. The spot achieved international fame at the end of the 19th century when the first health resort of the Principality of Liechtenstein was built here, attracting guests from all over Europe. Geographically, Gaflei features a spectacular panoramic view over the Rhine Valley as far as the Swiss Alps. The development of the area was closely linked to burgeoning alpine tourism, with the former kurhaus now replaced by modern catering. Gaflei is the classic starting point for the famous Fürstensteig, one of the most spectacular and well-known mountain hiking trails in the region, leading through the steep rock faces of the Drei Schwestern. In Liechtenstein's history, Gaflei also played a role in land surveying and as a site for political gatherings. The vegetation is characterized by alpine meadows and stone pine forests, providing an important habitat for chamois.
