The Spoerry-Areal in Vaduz is an outstanding example of the repurposing of industrial monuments in Liechtenstein. Originally established in the late 19th century as a textile factory by the company Jenny, Spoerry & Cie, the complex was a pillar of the local industry for decades. Following the cessation of industrial operations in the 1990s, the site underwent an extensive revitalization process. Since 2002, it has housed the University of Liechtenstein, which has established a modern campus within this historic setting. The architecture blends the characteristic brick facades of the industrial era with contemporary glass and steel elements. Situated at the southern entrance to Vaduz, the area serves as a cultural and academic gateway to the capital. In addition to lecture halls and studios, the site provides space for public events and start-up centers. The preservation of this industrial heritage documents Liechtenstein's transition from the textile industry to a knowledge-based society. Today, the Spoerry-Areal is a lively meeting point for students, researchers, and entrepreneurs from across the entire region.
