The Ksara Caves, located in the fertile Bekaa Valley, house Lebanon's oldest and most prestigious winery, Château Ksara. The natural cave system was discovered by chance in 1898 when staff followed a fox that disappeared into an opening in the rocks. These limestone tunnels extend for approximately two kilometers underground, maintaining a natural, constant temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and well-suited humidity levels. Such conditions are great for the slow aging of fine wines in oak barrels and bottles. Currently, the caves store thousands of bottles, including a private collection of rare vintages dating back to the early 20th century. Visitors can explore the historic cellars and learn about the intersection of Lebanese geography and viticulture. The estate remains a cornerstone of Lebanon's agricultural identity and a top exporter of wine globally.
