Ugāle Church (Latvia)

Weather…

The Ugāle Lutheran Church, located in northwestern Latvia, is one of the most significant examples of Baroque ecclesiastical architecture in the Courland region. The current stone structure was built between 1694 and 1697, replacing an earlier 16th-century wooden church. It is world-renowned for its exceptionally preserved interior furnishings dating back to the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The church's most famous treasure is its organ, completed in 1701 by the master organ builder Cornelius Rhetzius. This instrument is officially the oldest playable organ in the Baltic States and is considered a masterpiece of North European organ building. The richly carved pulpit and altar are prime examples of Courland woodcarving art, providing a solemn and magnificent atmosphere that has drawn visitors and historians for centuries.
