Liepāja Lake Nature Reserve (Latvia)

Weather…

The Liepāja Lake Nature Reserve covers an area of approximately 3,715 hectares and is designated as a significant Natura 2000 site. This shallow lagoon lake is separated from the Baltic Sea by a narrow strip of land and serves as a critical habitat for over 100 bird species, including the Eurasian bittern. The reserve was officially established in 2004 to preserve the biodiversity of the 15 islands located within the lake. Geographically, the lake reaches a maximum depth of only about 3 meters, which encourages the growth of extensive reed beds. Visitors utilize the constructed observation towers for birdwatching, particularly during the autumn migration periods. Its ecological importance is further highlighted by the protection of rare plant species, such as the marsh orchid, which thrives in the surrounding wet meadows.
