Pofi is a fascinating small town in the province of Frosinone, situated on the cone of an extinct volcano, Monte Pofi, at an elevation of 283 meters. This unique geographical position not only has spectacular views of the Sacco Valley but has also led to significant archaeological discoveries. In the area around Pofi, some of the oldest human remains in Italy were found, including the skull fragment of 'Argil,' or Ceprano Man, discovered in the Pleistocene layers of the region. The Municipal Museum of Prehistory in Pofi documents these finds and the evolution of flora and fauna over hundreds of thousands of years. The town's historic center maintains a medieval appearance, featuring the imposing Palazzo Colonna, which once served as a feudal residence. The economy of Pofi is strongly influenced by agriculture, particularly the cultivation of flowers and vegetables, earning the town a reputation as a flourishing garden in Ciociaria. Pofi uniquely combines geological features, prehistoric heritage, and the rural traditions of the Lazio region.
