Lido di Metaponto is one of the most famous and beloved coastal destinations in the southern Italian region of Basilicata. Picturesquely situated on the coast of the Ionian Sea, the town features a first-rate combination of a relaxing beach holiday and cultural discoveries. The extensive sandy beaches are embedded in lush Mediterranean vegetation, and vast pine forests separate the beaches from the inland areas, creating a pleasantly natural and cool atmosphere. The kilometer-long sandy beaches of Metaponto are well-suited for sun worshippers and families alike. The water here slopes very gently, guaranteeing safe swimming for children. Along the coast, visitors will find excellently equipped beach clubs such as Blumen Bad, Lido delle Sirene, Lido Helios, Lido dei Gabbiani, and Spiaggia Hotel Degli Argonauti. In addition to sun loungers and umbrellas, these lidos often offer restaurants, bars, and animation programs for all ages. Away from the beach, the fascinating history of Magna Graecia beckons. Just a few kilometers inland are the impressive ruins of ancient Metapontum, including the famous Doric columns of the Temple of Hera (Tavole Palatine). The local cuisine pampers visitors with fresh seafood, handmade pasta, and excellent local olive oil. The resort is easily accessible via the SS106 Ionica state road and by train, making it a good starting point for exploring the broader region.
