Capri has been synonymous with beauty and luxury since the time of the Roman emperors. The island town is divided between the bustling Capri, with its designer boutiques and the famous Piazzetta, and the quieter, elevated Anacapri. The island's landmark is the three Faraglioni rocks jutting out of the azure waters. The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), with its magical light effects, is the most visited attraction. Away from the crowds, the Gardens of Augustus offer a panoramic view of Via Krupp, a spectacular serpentine road carved into the cliff. Capri is also famous for its handmade sandals and the scents of wild herbs used by the local Carthusia perfumery. The blend of dramatic nature, ancient history, and modern exclusivity makes Capri a unique Mediterranean destination. Since summer 2024, the island has been trialling a 5-euro daily entry fee and ferry visitor caps to manage crowding. Booking ferry tickets well in advance is strongly advised in July-August.
The most pleasant time to visit is May–Jul.
