Korek Mountain is a modern mountain resort that has transformed into a year-round tourist destination in the Erbil Governorate. The experience begins with a 4-kilometer cable car ride, one of the longest in the region, which transports visitors from the Bekhal valley to the mountain's summit at over 2,100 meters. The resort at the top features luxury villas, restaurants, and amusement parks, offering something for every traveler. In winter, Korek becomes a snowy wonderland, attracting skiers and snow enthusiasts from all over Iraq. During the summer, it has a cool sanctuary from the heat of the plains, with temperatures significantly lower than in the cities. The peak also holds the ruins of an ancient astronomical observatory, adding a historical dimension to the visit. Accessible via the scenic Hamilton Road, the mountain is best visited in winter for snow activities or in summer for panoramic views and mountain hiking.
