Gali Ali Beg
Gali Ali Beg is a natural masterpiece in the Kurdistan Region, famous for its majestic waterfall that is featured on the Iraqi 5,000-dinar note. The canyon stretches for 12 kilometers between towering cliffs where a mountain river carves its path. Visitors flock here to enjoy the cool microclimate and the scenic beauty, providing a refreshing escape from the heat of southern Iraq. Numerous picnic spots and local eateries line the river, offering fresh fish and traditional Kurdish hospitality. The area is well-suited for photography and light exploration along the historic Hamilton Road. It is easily reached via a scenic drive from Erbil. While summer (June to September) is popular for cooling off, spring is when the waterfall is at its most powerful and the vegetation most bustling.
