Lake Habbaniyah (Iraq)

Weather…

Lake Habbaniyah is a shallow freshwater basin located in the Iraqi province of Al-Anbar, covering a hydrographic surface of approximately 140 square kilometers. It is located about 74 kilometers west of Baghdad and fulfills a central function in regulating the water volumes of the Euphrates River. During the 1950s, this natural geographic depression was transformed into a controlled reservoir following the completion of the Ramadi Dam. Its storage capacity reaches a maximum of 3.3 cubic kilometers of water. During the 1970s and 1980s, the area adjacent to the lake was a major recreation destination. The Majarra Canal allows the discharge of surplus water towards Lake Razzaza, situated further south.
