Rishikesh
Rishikesh is a place where spirituality meets adrenaline. Located at the foothills of the Himalayas, the town is globally known as the birthplace of yoga, attracting seekers to its numerous ashrams. The holy Ganges flows here with great power, providing the excellent backdrop for the evening Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan, a ceremony that mesmerizes visitors. The famous suspension bridges, Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula, are iconic landmarks of the town. Beyond the spiritual side, Rishikesh is also India's hub for white-water rafting and bungee jumping. Treks to hidden waterfalls and riverside camping are popular activities for nature lovers. Local gastronomy is strictly vegetarian, offering everything from traditional Indian thalis to modern health cafes. Reaching the town is easy from Dehradun or Haridwar. The best time for yoga is spring, while the rafting season lasts from late September to June.
